Ministry Transitions

Dr. John Cionca was a critical part of the transitional leadership plan during our Lead Pastor’s medical leave of absence. John’s deep understanding and experience with large, complex ministry systems was instrumental in assisting our pastoral staff with both day-to-day and long-range operations at the church. His consultation and coaching for ministry teams, executive staff and the church overseer team, helped us define the path and resources we needed to successfully navigate a surprising and challenging time in our church’s story. Furthermore, his role as our interim speaking pastor during that time provided continuity and high-quality teaching for our congregation. Dr. Cionca was a tremendous blessing to Jacob’s Well, we are very thankful for his shepherd’s heart, great teaching and experienced pastoral leadership.

Cultural shifts are taking place in North America creating new complexities in ministry. Changing technologies, the collapse of modern Christendom, and the growing ethnic populations are just a few of the new winds of change blowing across the church landscape today. As pastors and other church leaders seek to understand and navigate the changes, John Cionca provides helpful answers in Your Church at Its Best! Partnering with the Spirit in Ministry. Based on Cionca's research among five hundred-plus churches and pastors, the book shows church leaders how to sail through the numerous winds of change to become a healthy church. Every church leader should read it and use it to set a biblical direction for their church.

As our interim pastor, John was invaluable to Edinbrook Church during our time of transition. He was instrumental in advising the church board and staff on day-to-day issues. We were able to maintain attendance and giving during our search for a new pastor and John’s Sunday messages and leadership were critical during our season of change. His willingness to advise me as the church chair was also very beneficial during the transition. John developed many lasting friendships at Edinbrook Church.

John Cionca is a great resource for the church. I have worked with him as an interim pastor, a search consultant, teacher and coach. In all areas I have found experience, wisdom, compassion and a deep desire for the church to be effective and relevant in a changing culture. I highly recommend Ministry Transitions!

John Cionca not only delivered what he promised, he delivered more. We have found his work to be on-point and very practical. Additionally, he did it within budget and on-time. He performed his services and presented his observations in a professional and gracious manner. The ultimate test would be if we would use him again -- the answer is a resounding 'yes.'

I believe it was by God’s grace that we connected with Ministry Transitions and John Cionca. We had been under the leadership of one pastor for 19 years, so when faced with transition we had no idea what to do. John guided our church and the leadership in many ways. He helped us:
       • Lead the church as our Interim Pastor
       • Evaluate who we were and what God expected us to be
       • Profile the type of pastor we needed for the future
       • Find several solid candidates for pastor
       • Lead us through the interviewing and discerning process of calling a new pastor.
John was there for us every step of the process. His leadership and experience was an invaluable resource for our church. If I ever had to go through this again – John would be my first call.

John Cionca helped me to sort through my reasons and motives for change at a very important intersection of my life. He is a trusted friend and mentor to those desirous of navigating change with faith and confidence.
